  • Community Art Mural

Due to pandemic restrictions Trapdoor London Escape Rooms was required to temporarily close. Like many downtown businesses we boarded up the front of our building for security purposes. This created a large blank 'canvas' and we wanted to bring some colour & cheer to the streetscape. We noticed many Londoners were decorating their houses with messages of support and community spirit. We decided to manufacture wooden puzzle piece panels in our workshop and offer them (for free) to anyone interested in participating in a large mural project. We posted on our social media sites and the response was fantastic! Over 180 puzzle pieces were created by artists, children, community members and groups. We kept the process 'contactless' by delivering the panel pieces to front porches and collecting the finished artwork one week later using the same method. We provided little artistic guidance for the pieces but suggested participants consider something uplifting or to depict something important to them. The assembled mural therefore reflects many diverse ideas and themes. We also received notes of thanks indicating this project provided a welcome distraction to those in quarantine and helped to relieve some boredom. The mural received local press coverage on CTV news and the London Free Press. Once we re-open we intend to display a number of the panel pieces inside our building.

  • Pregnant in a pandemic

I am doing very well. Being quarantined for 4 months has allowed our family to rest (before the birth of our third daughter on April 21,2020) and bond (after the birth). We have enjoyed not having unexpected visitors, and having extra time to complete projects and chores. Having both parents and all 3 children at home has been a blessing. We have enjoyed the relaxed routine.
  • Protection

Since the beginning of the pandemic, both my husband and I have continued to serve the public ( as we are both essential workers ) !! We have put ourselves in risk to ensure that everyone’s needs are met !! My husbands company has literally fallen behind on what is safe to protect their employees and the public !!! My company on the other hand has gone out of their way to ensure that everyone is safe to shop at their stores !!!! Because of our safety ...we have gone so far as to sleep in separate rooms so we have no chance of passing on the virus !! Our lives and those we interact with are more important than taking a chance with everyone’s lives !! We desperately miss our family and friends .. but nothing is worth risking their lives for !!!! For months now it has been extremely stressful. But the drive by “ Hi’s “ and on-line chats are a life saver !!! Hopefully soon we can see our family and friends soon !!!!! Loneliness is very hard to take when you are protecting loved ones !!!!!!
  • Life under covid-19, June 2020

I'm tired of the endless drumbeat of bad news, especially from the US. I want to go back to the time when we had never even heard of Covid-19. I'm tired of the US acting so irresponsibly and afraid of how that affects the rest of the world. I'm tired of seeing what their irresponsibility does to our economy and the savings of people like me who had planned to be only a few years from retirement.

  • Messages of Encouragement During Covid-19

On walks during the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic, my husband and I noticed that young artists had painted messages of encouragement and left them around our neighbourhood, particularly in Highland Woods.
