How are you doing?

Extremely bored as I’ve been laid off for six weeks as of yesterday.

Are you isolating with someone else, if so who (relationships, not names i.e.. father, sister, roommates, spouse, your children etc.)?

Yes, with my boyfriend and our cats.

How has COVID-19 affected your home life? How are you passing the time?

We’ve definitely had to learn to communicate and coexist within our apartment day after day. My partner and I are both young professionals and devote ourselves to our careers whole heartedly. To sit at home has been difficult. I spend a lot of my time baking, learning to sew face masks, and cleaning the apartment. We are fortunate to have our own backyard, which greatly relieves the cabin fever when needed.

How has it affected your work, education, etc.? Are you an essential worker?

I have been laid off of work until further notice and have taken it upon myself to be useful through sewing and donating masks. My mother is an essential worker and I’ve been ensuring that she, and others have an adequate supply at all times

What about the outbreak and response to it has you most concerned?

I think the hardest part of this is not knowing what we’re coming back out to. I manage a cafe within the hospitality industry so to me, the world feels like it’s going to look completely different. I worry for the mental health of the people should we go back into quarantine. I miss my mother dearly.

Do you know someone who has or has had the virus? How has this affected them?

I am unaware of anyone who has been infected by this disease

How well do you think the government and other leaders are responding to the pandemic? What do you think about the local, national and international media coverage?

I am grateful and Proud to be Canadian

What challenges are ahead? How and how fast do you think normal life should be restored?

I don’t believe we can fathom all of the challenges that lay ahead; however I believe the tortoise can beat the hare and that sometimes it’s better to be safe than sorry. Even at the expense of the 1%

What do you think will be different after the pandemic? What do you think should be different? What will be better or worse?

I think that we will emerge into a new world. Nothing will be exactly as it was, not should it be.

Do you have anything else to say about the COVID-19 pandemic?

This has been a life altering experience, uniting the globe in a time of hardships. We will remember this time for many years to come, and hopefully we will be able to become better from it. For the sake of those who have lost and suffered at the hands of an invisible enemy.
